Oudtshoorn, 23 August 2017 – The Transnet-Phelophepa Healthcare Train will arrive in Oudtshoorn this coming weekend to start with the services on Monday, 28 August 2017.
Executive Mayor of the greater Oudtshoorn, Cllr. Colan Sylvester has this week expressed the Council’s support for the arrival of the services of the Transnet-Phelophepa Healthcare Train to Oudtshoorn.
“Partnerships are vital to ensure that each citizen gets access to quality healthcare services. This train is a beacon of hope to many, and that is why the Oudtshoorn Municipal Council fully supports this project. We are looking forward to building good working relationships with the Foundation in an attempt to extend these services to more areas in rural South Africa where it is much needed,” Sylvester said.
Mayor Sylvester also is also urging the public of the greater Oudtshoorn to make use of this facility. “We invite all citizens of the greater Oudtshoorn to make use of this opportunity of accessing health care services at either no cost or very low cost for the much needed services.”
The Transnet-Phelophepa Healthcare Train brings health and hope to thousands of rural South Africans in need of access to health-care facilities. The Transnet-Phelophepa Healthcare Train – the world’s first primary healthcare hospital on wheels – uses the existing rail network in South Africa to make quality medical care an accessible reality for many of South Africa’s most remote communities.
This nineteen coach train, with its twenty resident staff members, fondly known as the “miracle train”, carries the most modern medical equipment on board. Phelophepa is indeed a journey of hope that continues to make a history of caring. The name ‘Phelophepa’ combines elements of Sotho and Tswana and, roughly translated, means ‘good, clean health’ – which is exactly what this travelling health clinic provides.
The train’s services will be accessible as from Monday, 28 August 2017 till 1 September 2017 and 4 till 8 September 2017 at the Oudtshoorn train station.Last published 23 August 2017
