Strong Wind Causes Havoc in Parts of the Greater Oudtshoorn

Oudtshoorn, 9 July 2020 – Oudtshoorn Municipality is attending to a number of complaints relating to the strong winds that have caused damages in parts of the Greater Oudtshoorn since last night and throughout the day today.

Some formal and informal houses’ roofs have been blown away by the strong winds in Matjiesrivier, De Kombuys (both North of Oudtshoorn) and in Volmoed (South West of Oudtshoorn), while a tree fell over a bakkie in Oak Street. We’ve received reports of trees that had fallen in De Rust.

Meanwhile, the power poles in Matjiesrivier, Schoemanshoek and De Kombuys broke damaging power line and causing unexpected power outages in these areas.

The contractor is attending to the damages caused by the strong winds to repair/replace about 9 poles. The 11 000 volts power lines are lying on the ground. Farmers in this area have also been contacted to communicate with and warn the residents in their farms about the potentially dangerous lines.

Municipal officials are responding to the various complaints from parts of the Greater Oudtshoorn. Any related complains may be reported to 044 203 7800.
