Oudtshoorn, 28 July 2020 “We are deeply saddened by the passing on of one of the greatest leaders the town has ever had, Dr. David Piedt (80),” said the acting Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Cllr. Noluthando Mwati.

“The passing on of Dr. Piedt has robbed the Klein Karoo of one of its finest intellectuals and community activists.” Mwati added. “Dr. Piedt, one of the founders of the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK), passed away while he was pioneering for the establishment of the Greater Oudtshoorn as an education and knowledge hub.

He was the coordinator of the Greater Oudtshoorn Vision 2030 sector of Education which among others, was aimed at establishing a university satellite campus in Oudtshoorn.

“On behalf of the Greater Oudtshoorn, I would like to convey our heartfelt and deepest condolences to the family of David Piedt and the entire community of the Greater Oudtshoorn.”

Dr. Piedt passed away on Monday, 27 July 2020, following a battle with COVID19 related sickness.
