Breakage on Pipe at Raubenheimer Dam

Oudtshoorn, 7 May 2020 - A breakage on the supply pipe from the Raubenheimer dam, which supplies water to Oudtshoorn, occurred on Tuesday, 28 April 2020. The Municipality consequently stopped supply to Oudtshoorn from the Raubenheimer dam and is currently supplying water from the Melville Dam. The Melville Dam can supply Oudtshoorn with water for about 30 days.

The services of a specialist contractor have been called in and repairs have already begun. The repairs are hampered in that they must be confined to the tunnel, under the embankment, in limited space. The 400 mm diameter pipe is also covered with concrete that must first be broken down. It is envisaged that the repairs will be done within the next two weeks.

It is not expected that the water supply in town will be interrupted, as the town has enough storage capacity in the reservoirs to accommodate the peak flows. However, the areas in Buffelsdrift and Schoemanshoek that are supplied directly from the main supply lines may experience water supply interruptions during peak times.

Although the dam level is above 49%, the drought is still not over. Residents are therefore requested to use water sparingly.

We apologize for any inconvenience that may occur and thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Breek op Pyptoevoer by Raubenheimerdam
